As a consultant having traveled globally and also to Canada for my MBA studies I agree that the experiences you encounter from afar are best serving me now within Texas. Your mindset is different when you have seen the happenings within the US from afar and upon returning you bring with you a sense of how (at least for me) things could be worse. Texas is rich with businesses looking to leverage the great resources we have, and not to mention the great University within Austin.
Welcome, and don't forget to try some BBQ while you are here. :)

Thank you for this insightful telling of your story in Argentina. You are such a keen observer of group dynamics in the moment and I appreciate the learning you drew from working with this group.
I think you are right that culture rarely becomes the center of attention, but it's so crucial to bring the conversation to the forefront. When you are explicit about how you work together, as a company, and your values, they are much more powerful and meaningful. This also helps to bridge common ground, as you've pointed out, and to be able to recognize when a certain cultural norm is counter-productive.
Sounds like a great session and that the group got a lot out of it.

Stephanie,<br

Thanks for reply. I absolutely agree. I doubt if there ever were an "good ol days" to be nostalgic about in regards to liberally prepared managers and leaders ... but I often feel as if much of the work we do as educators in this realm is about giving exactly this kind of learning experience -- helping people in business think more broadly and more deeply. Often making our task more difficult are precisely the kind of pop leadership texts you discuss in your recent BNET blog.
Cheers,
Mark

Dave,

Thanks for reply. I absolutely agree.
